What is COVID-19?
COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered novel virus, corona virus. It was first identified during an investigation into an outbreak in Wuhan, China in 2019. The outbreak was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
How is it transmitted?
The virus is transmitted through contact with an infected person's respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes or through contact with contaminated surfaces.
COVID-19 has no cure and as such preventative measures are key to prevent infection and to slow transmission of COVID-19.
