The Journal publishing and distribution model determine how readers can access journal content, there are three types of Journal publishing and distribution models. These are;
- Subscription or Traditional Publishing Model,
- Open Access Publishing, and
- Hybrid Publishing.
Subscription Publishing / Traditional Publishing Model
In order for an author to publish in a subscription based journal, they will be required to pay the Article Processing Charge (APC). Articles published through this model can only be accessed by subscribes of the journal or by users who pay for the content that they read.
It is advisable that before submitting manuscript for publishing, authors should check instructions for authors or the submitting guidelines provided via the journal website for further details on the publishing model used.
Open Access Publishing
Open Access (OA) provides free access to published research articles. Depending on the OA model used by the journal, authors may bear some costs in order to make their work open.
Hybrid Publishing
Hybrid publishing is a combination/ mix of the traditional publishing as well as OA publishing model.
